Program Description:

The Heavy Equipment Service Technician program trains students to diagnose, service, and repair heavy equipment and heavy-duty truck systems. Instruction covers diesel engines, transmissions, buses, motor graders, service software, parts ordering, service reports, and preparation for ASE T2, T4, T6, and T8 certification exams. Through nine occupational completion points, students develop skills in diesel engines, electrical systems, fuel injections, preventive maintenance, engine overhaul, safety, communication, leadership, employability, and hands-on shop operations.

Coursework also includes shop safety, OSHA standards, applied math and science, tool use, component identification, electronic service information, measuring tools, and EPA hazardous waste procedures. This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Transportation, Distribution and Logistics career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Transportation, Distribution and Logistics career cluster.

The content includes but is not limited to maintaining and repairing diesel engines and electrical systems; reconditioning diesel fuel injection systems; overhauling diesel engines; and performing diesel engine preventive maintenance.

A driver’s license is recommended for job placement.
