Enter a career in the health science field with McFatter Technical College’s Pharmacy Technician – ATD program. This program prepares students with the knowledge, hands-on training, and clinical experience needed to work closely with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in retail, community, hospital, and other pharmacy settings.

Students learn foundational healthcare skills, pharmacy procedures, medication preparation and distribution, customer service, and professional responsibilities required in pharmacy environments. Lab simulations give students the opportunity to practice pharmacy technician skills before participating in clinical experiences in community and hospital pharmacies.

The program prepares students for the Certified Pharmacy Technician credential and Florida Board of Pharmacy registration required to work as a licensed pharmacy technician in Florida.

What Does a Pharmacy Technician Do?

Pharmacy technicians support pharmacists by helping prepare, package, label, and distribute medications. They may also assist with inventory, customer service, prescription processing, pharmacy records, and other daily responsibilities in a pharmacy setting.

Pharmacy technicians can work in a variety of healthcare and pharmacy environments, including retail pharmacies, hospitals, mail order pharmacies, compounding pharmacies, insurance companies, and home IV pharmacies.

Pharmacy Technician Courses

Students complete the following pharmacy technician courses:

• HSC0003: Basic Healthcare Worker — 90 hours
• PTN0084: Pharmacy Technician 1 — 360 hours
• PTN0085: Pharmacy Technician 2 — 300 hours
• PTN0086: Pharmacy Technician 3 — 300 hours

Admission Requirements

Students interested in the Pharmacy Technician – ATD program must complete the following admissions steps:

• Schedule a basic skills assessment or provide official documentation of a basic skills exemption to the program counselor or advisor
• Schedule an appointment with the program counselor or advisor to review basic skills assessment results and/or complete a program-specific orientation
• Provide a high school diploma or GED
• Complete a physical examination and immunization record
• Complete drug screening through an approved vendor
• Complete a Level 2 background check through an approved vendor
• Register during open enrollment
